Product Backlog Management Workflow
Project Status: Deployed
Overview: Developed end-to-end, semi-automated workflow encompassing backlog item ideation, refinement, and prioritization. Integrated product ownership processes with development team’s implementation and QC/QA procedures across enterprise Asana and Jira instances.
Actions:
- Collaborated with product owner to determine Asana-side project configuration specifically tailored to the management team’s internal processes
- Implemented custom metadata fields and controlled vocabularies to track unique requirements like user-stories, acceptance criteria, technical criteria, dependencies, and stakeholder interest
- Designed and implemented custom rules to automate ranking and organization of backlog items based on custom metadata fields
- Leveraged Asana/Jira integration to automate the creation and syncing of tickets and associated information across the instances
- Implemented automated, targeted notifications and update tracking to appropriate stakeholders
- Designed and implemented custom, phased workflow in Jira to reflect needs of the develop team
Outcomes: Workflow in-use to manage product backlog for a specialized data analytics dashboard
User-driven Ideation to “killer App”
Project Status: Deployed v1; continuing to iterate and optimize
Overview: Collaborated with leadership-level stakeholders to transform a suite of vaguely defined data analysis requests into a centrally used “killer app” that provides core value and performs services aligned with the organization’s primary use-cases.
Actions:
- Received and synthesized initial asks stemming from both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Translated communications into technical features and UX requirements to start building a prototype
- Delivered prototype in quick turnaround to allow for fast iterations and cycles of feature refinement
- Released MVP to wider user group and increased cadence of feedback touch-points to develop new features
- Coordinated with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proper configuration and stability of cross-organization data pipelines and other infrastructural needs
- Coordinated demos and on-boarding training sessions to different stakeholders across the organization
- Released stable V1 into production, current users range from highest-levels of the directorate to program managers and technical SMEs
- Continue to maintain an active product backlog of user-driven features and requests
Outcomes: A widely-used, agile dashboard that provides previously unavailable visibility into the central activities of a high-profile scientific research funding organization. Eager adoption by high-level stakeholders.
Custom Data Analytics Dashboard – Major Version Release
Project Status: Deployed
Overview: Developed and delivered to production a major version release of a data analytics dashboard that included AI-driven summaries, customizable data visualizations, and other bespoke features for a high-profile scientific research organization.
Actions:

- Elicited and documented functional requirements and translated them into testable criteria
- Managed a rapidly evolving development backlog and liaised with engineering team to adjust priorities and timelines accordingly
- Coordinated iterative cycles of feedback and refinement capturing customer-driven changes and rationale
- Coordinated stand-ups and sprint reviews to ensure and demonstrate progress directly to stakeholders
- Shepherded dashboard through development and staging tiers of review by developing a robust testing framework prior to production release
- Organized and tracked all work using Asana and Jira to synchronize tasks and accountability across different teams
- Authored and delivered customer-facing release notes and other user documentation
Outcomes: Successful product release with a significant uptick in adoption across the customer’s organization.
Digital Repository Submission System – Development & Deployment
Project Status: Deployed
Overview: Partners in the Library required the creation of a bespoke, Drupal-based submission portal for faculty, students, and researchers to deposit materials into the FSU Digital Repository.
Actions:
- Elicit and refine functional and non-functional requirements from stakeholders
- Generate user stories based on requirements
- Develop and define acceptance criteria
- Design sprints/iterations to accomplish the work
- Deliver 15 unique webform variants for different media and use-cases
- Configure webforms to create repository ingest packages via API
- Configure submission system with appropriate access controls, role permissions, and notifications
- Apply appropriate Views and theme elements for optimal UX
- Iterative delivery with key stakeholders providing feedback at reviews
Outcomes: Test and production systems deployed and used by entire campus community. New features developed as needed.
Digital Repository Platform Evaluation
Project Status: Complete
Overview: The FSU Digital Repository, previously hosted by the Library in AWS in a legacy open-source framework, required migration to new, up-to-date systems. The first step of the migration process required evaluating and selecting new platforms based on stakeholder needs and the organization’s strategic priorities.
Actions:
- Working with multiple stakeholder groups, elicit and define functional requirements for hosted and SaaS platforms
- Conduct a landscape survey of current platform options based on subject-matter expert guidance
- Refine the field of options using systematic testing to eliminate vendors/platforms not aligned with requirements
- Schedule and execute information sessions between providers, community groups, and/or current users of different platforms
- Deploy demo instances of open-source, hosted options for hands-on testing and evaluation
- Collect and synthesize stakeholder feedback into final report and recommendation documents
Outcomes: Final report and business case for two new repository platforms (for Digital Library and Institutional Repository content, respectively) submitted and recommendations accepted by Senior Leadership. Procurement process initiated.
